Some of the most famous shopping malls in the world will become more popular with Millennial shoppers as the number of seniors, the age group that is most likely to go shopping, is expected to rise, according to an industry group.
In fact, the top five malls in malls across the country will be more popular to Millennials than the average mall in the United States, the American Chamber of Commerce reported on Tuesday.
The top five shopping malls among seniors are in Florida, Virginia, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee, according the report.
The Chamber reported that the top 5 malls in Georgia, the state with the highest percentage of seniors at 25.7%, are all located in Atlanta, where malls have seen a surge in seniors shopping in recent years.
The number of mall-goers ages 50 to 64 in Atlanta has increased by a whopping 11.6% from 2012 to 2017, and the number in the city has doubled in that same time period, according The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Among mall-going seniors, there are four mega-malls, which are more than 50,000 square feet.
The biggest of these is the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, which is home to Walt DisneyWorld, Walt Disney Family Fun Center, the Walt Dixie Lounge and Disney Springs.
The second largest is the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, home to Disneyland Resort and California Adventure.
The third biggest is the Shanghai Disneyland Resort, which has more than 1.3 million square feet of shopping space, the largest of any Disneyland Resort.
Other top-ranked shopping malls include the Bloomingdale’s department store in Bloomingdale, Illinois, which boasts more than 800,000 sq. ft. of space; The New York City department store, which will be expanded to about 1.4 million sq. feet; and the Kmart at the University of Southern California, which already has over 1 million square ft.
Millennials will also be shopping in many more malls, including Target, the No. 1-ranked retail chain among all age groups in the U.S., according to the chamber.
Target and Kmart will have the most stores for Millennials in the country.
Target has more shopping space than any other retail store in the nation, according Toi and the Chamber report.
And Target is opening new stores, while Kmart has opened a few locations in the past year.
Target is also adding new products, like clothes and accessories, and is expanding its technology department.
The company has been expanding its online stores, as well.
Kmart and Target have also been expanding their technology departments, expanding its distribution centers and expanding its workforce.
According to The Associated Press, the average age of the Millennial shopping mall is 30.8 years old, compared to 26.9 for the average adult, according data from the U-M’s Center for Urban Research.
